snvb’s new Village Networks project
Abthorpe and other villages across South Northamptonshire will be the winners as the result of a successful bid for new project funding to the Big Lottery Reaching Communities fund by snvb, the South Northants Volunteer Bureau.

The project will connect residents from villages with professional support and advice on issues that matter to them. The concept is based on valuable feedback received from a range of community/voluntary groups and parish councils many of which highlighted various issues and concerns

Our modern mobile exhibition unit can travel out to villages and venues and it has on board internet access, computers and a library of information, as well as a meeting room for residents to receive confidential advice from leading experts. We also have a 16-seater minibus to help transport residents to the mobile unit as well as to towns, hubs and other facilities to access services and support.

For more information, contact Nick King via email at nick@snvb.org.uk or call 01327 358264.

This Age Concern service has been operating since 2001 and is delivered by trained staff who can be used to offer carers some much needed respite. What the carer chooses to do is not an issue: whether they need the time to have their hair cut, do the shopping without feeling anxious about leaving their loved one alone – or simply going upstairs for some sleep. The Carers Response Team will sit with the cared-for person, help prepare a light lunch, help to the toilet and provide company.
It is a vital service to those who need to reclaim their lives back every now and then. It covers all of Northamptonshire and best of all, is FREE.
For anyone wishing to take advantage of the Carers Response Team, call the Service Advice Team at Age Concern on 01604 611 200 or go to ageuk.org.uk. One of the staff will visit the home and complete an assessment.

British Red Cross  “Dial-a-Wheelchair” service launched in Northamptonshire
Following the success of the British Red Cross  “Dial-a-Wheelchair” service in Leicestershire, the service has recently been launched in Northamptonshire.

Wheelchairs are available on short term loan (up to eight weeks), making the service suitable not only for those who have recently come home from hospital, recovering after an operation or injury, but also for visiting relatives, days out, or even a holiday loan.

We request that clients make a donation towards the service and upkeep of the chairs, thus enabling us to continue to help others in need.

Wheelchairs can be collected from our office on Moulton Park , Northampton , or a delivery and collection service is available for which there is a small charge.

If you require any further information please contact Justin Prescott (dial-a-wheelchair assistant co-ordinator) on 01604 678500 or e-mail: jprescott@redcross.org.uk
